Stiffly upright plant in shady area to 1.5 meters tall; Overall appearance of plant is pale; many dried leaves clasping stem in lower branches. Stem invisible from clasping leaf bases, the leaves ascending in flat planes, separated along stem by bracts; leaf bases have bluish tint when mature, the youngest very pale green; petiole trough-like but so curled to be terete, flattening into blade, petiole very finely pale-speckled over darker-green; leaf blade medium to pale yellow-green glossy above, less glossy below; blade appears deeply grooved above, with margins puckered. Inflorescence rachis dull-green overlaid purple; flowers past anthesis, in wilted state whitish to pale purple, especially where segments cover ovary. Fruit 0.7 x 1.2 cm, bright green, glossy. |
